Installing EV charging points in the workplace can provide great benefits for any business looking to expand their fleets with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or electric vehicles.
It is not only great for your organisations environmental credentials, it can also save a business thousands of pounds a year in both fuel and maintenance savings, whilst also providing significant tax benefits.
1. Plug-in vehicles can help businesses and fleets save thousands of pounds a year
One of the most obvious savings of switching to plug-in vehicles as opposed to petrol or diesel cars is the savings on fuel costs. Running a vehicle on electricity returns significant savings on running costs as the cost per mile is substantially lower.
For example, Renault have given the travel costs for a Renault Zoe at just 2p per mile.
In comparison with the average cost per mile of running a petrol car, it is clear to see how electric and hybrid vehicles can save your fleet a considerable sum of money in this area.
Maintenance and parts can often cause a costly headache, but a pure electric vehicle’s drivetrain only has one moving part – the electric motor – meaning that the potential replacement part and service costs will be largely reduced.
Some fleets have reported reductions of more than 50% when operating pure electric vehicles, and although the savings for PHEV’s are slightly lower due to their combustion technologies, the savings are significant.

2. Take advantage of a number of grants, incentives and tax benefits to grow your electric or plug-in hybrid fleet
There are a number of grants available and tax incentives that help to reduce the total cost of electric vehicle ownership, making them more affordable for both you and your employees.
Firstly, the government is providing up to £4,500 off the on the road (OTR) price on an eligible pure electric car, up to £2,500 for an eligible PHEV and up to £8,000 off the price of an eligible electric van. If you are thinking of adding new vehicles to your fleet, check out the full list of eligible electric cars and vans here.
Not only that, pure electric vehicles are exempt from paying Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) and vehicles that emit less than 75g/km CO2 pay less road tax in the first year.
Other incentives and benefits include, Benefit in Kind (BIK), capital allowances and salary sacrifice when operating electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles within fleets.
Another grant option is the Workplace Charging Scheme from OLEV which offer £300 per socket installed at the workplace. GreenCity Utilities are an OLEV approved installer and therefore your business is already pre-approved to take advantage of this funding option.
3. Add an additional revenue stream to your business
GreenCity Utilities offers a range of EV charging points which have been specifically designed for a range of commercial locations including restaurants, offices, factories, warehouses, car parks plus more, all with the facility to provide a PAYG option.
It is simple for drivers to use through a variety of options, either a coin or token option or through EV Charge online. The EV driver simply pays for the vehicle charging cycle that they use when using your charging point.
4. Provide staff, visitors and customers with additional satisfaction
Giving staff, visitors and customers the option of being able to charge their vehicle on your premises improves the service offering of your organisation.
Several commercial fleets operating EV’s and PHEV’s, have reported a higher level of employee satisfaction, improved performance and better retention. An example of this is found in delivery applications with drivers appreciating a smoother, quieter ride, the elimination of exhaust fumes and the idea that they are operating cutting-edge technology.
5. Enhance your company’s environmental credentials
Purely electric vehicles don’t emit any of the gases associated with conventional vehicles such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide and therefore offers a significant improvement in air quality in cities, whilst further reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
If you or your business is environmentally aware or if your business goals include reducing your impact on the environment then switching to electric and promoting the use of electric vehicles by offering EV charging points, is imperative to your whole business offering.
We are able to offer full branding and bespoke colour options across the majority of our range of EV charging points, so you can always remain on brand.
